Ideal qualifications:  2+ years of Certified Veterinary Technician experience required. Certified Veterinary Technician CVT How you’ll make an impact: 
  • Provide quality patient care in tandem with other medical professionals.
  •  
  • Be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to: laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery and dentistry. 
  • Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in patient files. Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients. 
  • Schedule appointments, take payments and check-in clients. Answer practice phone lines. 
  • Participate in any special cleaning duties and equipment maintenance as directed. 
  • Support a work environment and culture that values critical thinking, problem solving, engagement, inclusion, and diversity at all levels. 
Physical demands and work environment: 
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker. Requires sufficient ambulatory skills. 
  • Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high. 
  • Employee is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances. 
  • Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to successfully perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information with all clients and team members.

Tasks are performed under direct supervision, detailed instruction, and guidance. Examples of Work Performed:
  • Change, clean, sanitize, and/or disinfect animal cages, pens racks animal support areas, feeding devices, watering devices, and all animal contact surfaces using appropriate methods
  • Evaluate the basic health status of animals and reports abnormalities to the appropriate personnel
  • Clean/sanitize at regular intervals direct and indirect animal contact surfaces by washing with appropriate detergents/disinfectants
  • Record daily animal care activities on room check-sheets, enter work activities into database, and contact appropriate personnel regarding dead/sick animals via e-mail or phone
  • Procure and transport animal feed and supplies
  • Record animal census
  • Collect soiled animal bedding and other wastes and transports to designated waste disposal sites (i.e. cage wash room or dumpster)
  • Procure animal feed, bedding and supplies from appropriate support areas and transport to required use site
  • Weigh, administer medications, breed, record breeding status data, euthanize, restrain, and transport laboratory animals as directed by supervisor or veterinarian
  • Scan cage cards to record animal census in the animal rooms and posts reports on a weekly basis
  • Select, prepare, dispense and utilize hazardous chemicals and disinfectants according to manufacturer’s instructions in cleaning and sanitizing animal rooms, racks, cages and pens and animal support areas
  • Operate mechanical equipment such as floor buffers, high pressure washers, laundry equipment, and environmental monitoring equipment for cleaning/sanitizing purposes
  • Lubricate and conduct minor repairs on animal care equipment
  • Clean/sanitize/disinfects animal holding rooms, procedure rooms, support rooms
  • On occasion may be required to drive a University vehicle to transport animals in cases of emergency
  • Perform related work as assigned or required

Qualifications
